Best places to retire in Nevada (2026)
Nevada has no state income tax, no tax on Social Security, and no tax on 401K or IRA withdrawals — which is why so many retirees relocate here. But "Nevada" covers a lot of ground. Here's how the top retirement cities actually compare when you look past the brochures.
Henderson
Consistently ranked among the safest large cities in the U.S. Master-planned communities like Sun City Anthem and Green Valley put golf, pickleball, and top-tier healthcare (St. Rose Dominican) within a 10-minute drive. Median home price is higher than Vegas proper, but the quality of life premium is real.
Las Vegas
Sheer scale means the widest healthcare network in the state, direct flights everywhere, and Summerlin/Anthem-style 55+ communities at every price point. Great for retirees who want restaurants, shows, and specialists close at hand.
Reno
Four real seasons, Lake Tahoe 40 minutes away, and a walkable Midtown that's shed its old-casino reputation. Renown Health anchors the medical scene. Winters are actually cold — a plus if Vegas summers wear you out.
Boulder City
The only Nevada city that banned gambling. Small-town feel, low crime, and a 20-minute drive to Henderson hospitals. Lake Mead access for boaters. Housing inventory is tight — plan ahead.
Mesquite
Affordable golf-community living on the Arizona border, 80 minutes from Vegas. Sun City Mesquite and similar developments offer detached homes at prices well below Henderson. Trade-off: fewer specialists locally; complex care means a drive to Vegas or St. George.
Before you move: the tax side
Nevada residency can save a high earner or retiree tens of thousands per year — but only if you establish it correctly (183-day rule, driver's license, voter registration, and severing ties with your old state). Pair the move with a Roth conversion in the years before RMDs kick in and the savings compound. Read our Nevada Retirement Tax Guide for the full playbook, then see how a Roth conversion fits alongside your relocation.
